Chairman's Report
Season Overview
Despite one of the most challenging seasons faced logistically, the 2025/26 season was definitely our most successful season to date. Bergvliet Cricket Club is on a steep upward trajectory, realizing better facilities, numbers, talent and community engagement.
Challenges Faced
Since our inception, we have always been a hard-working club. Our culture is one which greets a challenge with a ‘can-do’ mentality. This season saw that spirit tested to its limit with a record number of double-header fixtures imposed by the WPCA calendar.
Alongside this, we had to navigate four men’s teams and a ladies’ side by utilising only one home field. Logistically, this posed several issues for our entire committee; however, we are pleased to have enjoyed the season nonetheless and have come through stronger.
Tied closely to the field issue was a budget which was stretched, changed and adapted to address our need for fields on the weekends. The committee was forced to work with a tight fiscal agenda as new expenses - some obvious and some not - sprang out of the blue, as we continued to fit the bill for new grounds throughout the season.
Season Highlights
I am pleased and excited to announce that despite the challenges faced, our club is in an incredibly strong position. We are the Mighty BCC and backwards is not in our vocabulary! There have been so many special moments across last season; it would be impossible to name them all. One of the things I enjoy about this club is how personal everyone’s experience is. For some, it’s the friendships that change lives. Others join a cricket club and find employment and networking opportunities. Still there are others who find tremendous meaning and joy from being a part of a community much bigger than themselves. Our culture - our people - will always be our biggest asset. However, I would also like to pick out a few key achievements from the season past:
• We have laid a foundation for the future cricket players by launching our very own Bergvliet Cricket Academy
• Bergvliet High School has been secured as the club’s primary home venue — a major step toward long-term facility stability.
• BCC achieved record sponsor revenue and key partnerships.
• Our 1st XI achieved promotion to the 1B League alongside a massive AMA20 victory at Newlands Stadium.
• Our 2nd XI was promoted to the Reserve C League.
• Our ladies structures and player numbers continue to grow.
• Continued strengthening of the club’s culture, community and family environment
Acknowledgement of Previous Committee Members
I would like to say a very special ‘thank you’ on behalf of the club to our previous long-standing committee members who have taken this club from just two social cricket teams to a powerhouse of the local community. Lloyd Burnard has served as Club Captain for multiple seasons. His passion for the game and people allowed us to form merit-based selection policies and maintain an infectious culture that perfectly balanced serious cricket on the field and enjoying the company after the game. William Solomon has also been a long-standing treasurer and has also done a tremendous job of keeping our budgets in step with our needs throughout a phase of exponential growth. Tim Scholtz (affectionately known as ‘Chair Feels’) has been the man at the helm since our inception and has been the vision for where we are today. I would like to thank these men for their sacrifice and hard work, as there is truly magic created when dedicated people come together to serve a community selflessly.
Vision for the Future
Excitement does not begin to describe how we feel about the upcoming season. The BCC is in a prime position to grow from strength to strength. As a relatively young committee, we are eager to aim big and win just the same. We have identified some of our core goals:
• Maintain our culture of respect and ‘cricket first’ above all else.
• Grow and invest in our junior setup with best-in-class coaching and facilities.
• Grow our ladies’ portfolio, with a second ladies’ side as a key aim in the near future.
• To provide value and maintain relationships with all sponsors, thereby growing our sponsor base and income.
• Aim for promotions for both our 1st XI and 2nd XI respectively
Closing Remarks
The 2026/27 season is bound to be a special one, with all club members fully on board to achieve personal and team targets. With a great culture and a thriving skillset across all sides, the Bergvliet Cricket Club invites all who love cricket with open arms.
